National Hair Care Institute

The National Hair Care Institute, established in September 2022, is the first and only institution of its kind in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis. Their mission is to provide top-notch natural hair care education and services. As the Community Voice Intern for Pillsbury United Communities, I played an integral role in ensuring the successful enrollment of the first cohort by organizing targeted outreach efforts. Through strategic partnerships, such as an exclusive on-air interview with KRSM Radio, compelling social media videos, marketing materials and a story with North News I generated immense interest in the National Hair Care Institute's offerings. The fruitful collaboration with Pillsbury United Communities not only led to the first cohort's triumph but also set the stage for future growth and exciting possibilities.

I set up an interview with Kemi who is the program director, instructor and president of the Natural Hair Care Institute. We visited the space with the intent to get the word out and promote the cohort.

I set up an on-air interview with KRSM Radio on the show The Narrative likes to amplify the voices, stories, cultures and conversations that are happening in the Minneapolis neighborhood and communities who are historical ignored. It presented a unique opportunity for the Natural Hair Care Institute to demonstrate its commitment to community engagement, diversity, and inclusivity. By sharing empowering stories, highlighting scholarship programs, and inviting the community to participate in upcoming events, the institute left an lasting positive impression on the Minneapolis neighborhood and historically ignored communities, ultimately encouraging more individuals to join the cohort and embark on a transformative journey towards a fulfilling career in the natural hair care industry.

 

In addition to setting up the interview, I created an AD which played on KRSM Radio the week before the cohort started. The ad’s strategic placement during peak listening hours reached a vast audience, precisely targeting potential students interested in pursuing a career in natural hair care.
